One of Australia’s largest agribusinesses has declined to confirm whether it will transfer its Sydney wool selling operations from Yennora to the new Goulburn selling centre, while other brokers prepare for a move that will end wool auctions at Yennora in less than three months.
Agency cautious over future selling arrangements
A spokesperson for Elders said the company remained “deeply committed” to its New South Wales clients and the broader Australian wool industry but would not provide a firm answer on whether it would relocate its Yennora wool operations to Goulburn or commit to maintaining a presence at NSW auctions.
“Elders is aware of the planned transition of wool selling from Yennora to Goulburn and is continuing to work through what this change means for our NSW wool selling arrangements” — Elders spokesperson
The new Goulburn selling centre is expected to be ready for wool auctions by the first week of sales in 2027. Several agencies that shared floor space at Yennora, including members of the Yennora Woolbrokers group, are reported to be preparing to make the move.
Scale of Yennora’s throughput in 2025–26
Industry figures underline Yennora’s historical importance to the national clip. In the 2025–26 season 434,870 bales were sold through Yennora, accounting for 29.1% of national throughput.
| centre | season | bales sold | share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yennora | 2025–26 | 434,870 | 29.1% |
| Melbourne (Elders) | 2025–26 | 200,000 | — |
The company’s involvement at Yennora represented a small proportion of its overall activity: Elders handled shy of 25,000 bales through Yennora in 2025–26, while selling around 200,000 bales via Melbourne, where more than half of the national clip is quoted to be sold.

While Elders has previously reorganised its handling network — announcing that all Western Australian wool would be processed and sold through Melbourne and that the Rockingham facility in Perth would close — the company’s spokesperson underlined its intention to deliver the best outcomes for clients as planning continues.
As rival brokers and several Yennora agencies ready themselves for a Goulburn-based selling model, the final arrangements for some major agencies remain unresolved, leaving a period of transition for sellers and buyers ahead of the first Goulburn sales in 2027.
