Lamb prices rise as the Christmas demand begins
Liveweight lamb prices have begun to rise in the past week following a decline in the number of throughputs, while demand has begun to rise in the build up to the Christmas period. In the week ended 23 November, the GB SQQ rose by 10p compared to the previous week at 171.6p/kg. This left prices 15p higher than the same period in 2015 following more modest rises at this time last year. This follows a rise in demand as the Christmas procurement period has begun, while the number of throughputs has started to fall.
Prices increased throughout the week, with the largest rise seen on Wednesday 23 November, when prices were 14p higher than the previous week at 171.7p/kg.
