Japan Buys More Australian Lamb
31 July 2015JAPAN – Lamb exports from Australia to Japan increased five per cent in the 2014/15 fiscal year, helped along by 16 per cent increase if frozen shipments.
Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) analysts revealed a 13 per cent lift in lamb shoulder sales and a nine per cent lift in manufacturing volumes.
Chilled shipments, which account for almost 60 per cent of total lamb shipped, fell two per cent on the year.
- Rack shipments were back 2 per cent year-on-year, to 689 tonnes swt, and leg exports were 9 per cent higher, totalling 666 tonnes swt.
- Mutton exports to Japan were 15 per cent lower than the previous year, at 3,963 tonnes swt, largely attributed to lower Australian mutton supplies.
- Backstrap volumes increased 9 per cent in 2014-15, at 1,286 tonnes swt
- Leg shipments declined 9 per cent, to 1,268 tonnes swt
- Manufacturing exports totalled 1,076 tonnes swt, down 36 per cent on year-ago levels
