Liveweight lamb prices continue to decline
Lamb prices at GB auction markets continued to decline for the third week in a row leaving prices at their lowest level since January. In the week ended 27 April the old season GB SQQ fell by 9p to 172.8p/kg, meaning prices were at their lowest level since mid-January. Prices remained 3p below the levels from the same week in 2015, following similar falls at this point last year. Prices were down throughout the period, with the largest fall seen towards the end of the week. The GB SQQ on Wednesday 27 April fell to 167.2p/kg – 9p below levels from the previous week. Prices have fallen, despite numbers coming to market falling, suggesting a decline in demand. Part of the reason for the fall may have been down to a strengthening of the pound against the euro in the past few weeks.
