Liveweight lamb trade weakens in latest week
Old season lamb prices began to decline in the past week, following the trend started towards the end of the previous week.
In the week ended 13 April the GB SQQ for old season lamb fell by 11p, compared to the previous week at 181.9p/kg, and despite a decline in the number of lambs coming to market. This left prices 15p below levels from the same week in 2015, the largest difference since January. The largest falls were seen at the beginning of the week with prices on Wednesday 13 April being just 4p lower on the week at 180.4p/kg. Demand during the week appears to have fallen as numbers coming to market were tighter, while the pound continued to weaken against the euro.
