Liveweight lamb prices fall
As the procurement period for Easter came to an end prices for lambs at liveweight markets have fallen.
In the week ended 23 March the GB SQQ fell by 5p, compared to a week earlier to 186.81p/kg. This is the first weekly fall seen in six weeks and represents the end of the increased demand for the Easter period. This left prices 10p below the levels from 2015, although comparisons should be treated with caution as Easter this year falls a week earlier. The trade began the week stronger than the previous seven days, however as the period progressed prices fell below week earlier levels. On Wednesday 23 March the GB SQQ was down 10p on the previous week at 178.75p/kg. Demand during the week is thought to have fallen as procurement for Easter slowed, while numbers coming to market during the week were above the level form the previous week.
