Liveweight lamb trade weakens
The liveweight lamb trade at GB auction markets continued to decline in the week ended 16 December, with sharper falls than seen last week.
The GB SQQ was back by almost 7p at 154.5p/kg, with prices lower throughout the week. The largest falls were seen at the beginning of the week, with prices more recently seeing a smaller fall. The GB SQQ on Wednesday 16 December was just a tenth of a penny lower than the previous week at 154.0p/kg. Christmas shows and sales last week will have continued to inflate the average prices received for lambs and consequently, with these sales coming to an end, week-on-week comparisons could be somewhat misleading. As prices at this time of year normally fall, the difference compared to last year’s prices narrowed to 27p/kg.
