UK Slaughter Statistics

This release shows the latest monthly information on the slaughtering of cattle, sheep and pigs. It also includes dressed carcass weight and meat production information.
The key results for October 2014 are given below:
- Cattle: UK prime cattle (steers, heifers and young bulls) slaughterings were 2.1 per cent higher than in October 2013 at 202,000 head, the highest total since October 2011. Beef and veal production was 91,000 tonnes, 3.5 per cent higher than in October 2013 and the largest amount since October 2012.
- Sheep: UK clean sheep slaughterings were 0.9 per cent higher than in October 2013 at 1.519 million head. Mutton and lamb production was 34,000 tonnes, 0.1 per cent lower than in October 2013.
- Pigs: UK clean pig slaughterings were 1.8 per cent higher than in October 2013 at 1.03 million head. Pigmeat production was 88,000 tonnes, 3.5 per cent higher than in October 2013.
