More Bluetongue in Macedonia's Sheep and Goats

05 March 2015

MACEDONIA – Cattle, sheep and goats have all been affected by the latest Bluetongue movements in Europe, this time in south eastern Macedonia.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has confirmed 14 animals with the disease; nine cattle, three goats and two sheep in the Gevgelija municipality near the city of Dojran.

The outbreak is part of the serotype four strain of the virus that has swept across the Balkans since the summer.

State veterinary authorities first confirmed the virus in early August 2014.
