Difficult Year For US Lamb Exports

US - Lamb exports for 2014 were back year on year after a "sluggish" last few weeks, according to US Meat Export Federation statistics.

Shipments finished the year 16 per cent down in volume and three per cent in value on the prior year. This amounted to a drop of 10,407 mt and $27.33 million respectively. 

This came after two consecutive months which saw lamb exports struggle.

Exports increased to top markets Mexico (8,733mt, up one per cent; $14.8 million, up four per cent) and the Caribbean (628mt, up 14 per cent; $4.5 million, up eight per cent).

Gains were also posted in emerging markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Panama and the Philippines.
