Spate of Bluetongue Cases in Central Romania

30 September 2014

ROMANIA - Farmers in central Romania have been reporting a rise in Bluetongue cases as the national death toll mounts.

Mid-September saw a rise in outbreaks in the Buzau region, with 32 farms being confirmed on September 18, including one cattle death.

A further 39 animals (cattle sheep and goats) were infected, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health.

The outbreak is part of a wider disease threat from Greece in the south up to Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzogovina.
