Demand Slips in Wintry Conditions

AUSTRALIA - Eastern states lamb supply as reported by MLA’s National Livestock Reporting Service eased by two per cent week-on-week, to total 150,456 head, according to Meat and Livestock Australia.

Yardings remained similar in NSW and Victoria, while supplies in SA were marginally lower.

The wintery conditions across most markets this week saw demand slightly waver, with restockers in particular choosing to shy away in the colder conditions.

At the conclusion of Thursday’s markets the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 48¢ lower on 524¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs gained 2¢ to 536¢/kg cwt, while light lambs eased 7¢ to 529¢/kg cwt.

The Eastern States Trade Lamb Indicator slipped 4¢ to 579¢/kg cwt, while heavy lambs eased 1¢ to 598¢/kg cwt.

Eastern states mutton supplies were three per cent lower week-on-week, to total 52,353 head. The eastern states mutton indicator decreased 15¢ to settle on 377¢/kg cwt.
