Rift Valley Fever Outbreak Reported in Botswana

BOTSWANA - A new outbreak of Rift Valley Fever has been detected in goats in the country.

The outbreak occurred in Bela Bela village in the south east of the country.

Of the 30 goats susceptible, the outbreak led to one case.

The affected area is generally hot with mild temperatures in winter. Mosquitoes and other vectors are present in the area and are thought to have caused the outbreak.

There have been no other abortions reported since. There have been no cases or abortions reported in cattle, even though they were 25 bovines at risk.
