Indian Sheep Population Declined 9.07 Per Cent in 2012

INDIA - India has recorded a drop in sheep population in 2012 by 9.07 per cent, which was recorded at 65.06 million, as compared to 71.55 million recorded in 2007.

The data has been released by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Indian agriculture ministry under the 19th Livestock Census-2012.

Goat population has too declined by 3.82 per cent at 135.17 million over the previous census of 140.53 million in 2007.

The total pigs in the country have decreased by 7.54 per cent at 10.29 million over the previous census of 11.13 million recorded during 2007.

However, during 2012, the total poultry population in the country has increased by 12.39 per cent at 729.2 million over the previous census recorded in 2007.
