Wool Body Welcomes Ag Funding Review

08 September 2014

AUSTRALIA – A senate inquiry into agriculture levies on research and marketing has been welcomed by wool industry body Wool Producers Australia (WPA).

WPA President Geoff Fisken said the organisation contributes ‘considerable’ levies and expects a review to deliver efficiencies in spending.

Industry structures and systems governing the imposition of a disbursement of marketing and research and development (R&D) levies in the agricultural sector has a reporting date of 24 November 2014.

“WPA strongly believes that the current Australian Agricultural R&D levy system is ‘world best practice’ and any changes to it must be in the best interest of, and agreed to by growers,” said Mr Fisken .

“The Inquiry is an opportunity for growers to tell the government how they want their levies to be utilised and managed. We encourage all growers to participate.”
