PPR Outbreak Reported in Bhutan

BHUTAN - Two new outbreaks of Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) have been reported to the OIE.

PPR, also known as ‘goat plague’, is a viral disease of goats and sheep characterised by fever, sores in the mouth, diarrhea, pneumonia, and sometimes death.

The two new outbreaks are reported in the Chukha and Dagana Districts.

In the Chukha district the goats were rescued from slaughter and kept in an enclosed shelter away from human habitation.

In total there is 148 confirmed cases, with 205 susceptible goats. The outbreak has resulted in 15 goat deaths.
