Wormer Videos to Address Anthelmintics “Misuse”

28 August 2015

UK – Important messages are being laid out in videos aimed at sheep and cattle farmers on the thorny issue of drench/wormer resistance.

The fourteen video series, hosted by levy board AHDB beef and lamb, are in conjunction with the Sustainable Control of Parasites in Sheep (SCOPS), presented by sheep expert Lesley Stubbings and independent vet Chris Lewis.

The videos cover topics such as; explaining anthelmintic resistance, correct dosing, drenching and injecting techniques, effective quarantine, calibrating a gun/injector, faecal egg counts and Nematodirus.

Lesley Stubbings said: “Unfortunately this heavy use, and in some cases misuse, of these relatively cheap products has led to the development of anthelmintic resistance.

“It is vital that the industry is able to control worms in the years to come, as failure to do so could have a huge negative impact on farmers.”
