Norway Farm Has MRSA Again, This Time in Sheep
07 July 2015NORWAY – A flock of sheep has tested positive for the ‘superbug’ methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) a month after the bacteria was found in pigs on the same farm.
Ongoing trials have found a total of 12 positive samples out of 19 on a farm in Haugesund, the Norwegian Veterinary Institute (NVI) announced on Friday.
Of 101 individual samples, the NVI expects 15 cases to test positive.
The NVI said it will continue monitoring to see if the bacteria are transmitted between animals.
Early last month, the farm, north of Stavanger, was forced to fully refurbish its swine operation after MRSA was confirmed in six pigs.
