Registration Open for National Merino Sheep Show

23 July 2014

AUSTRALIA - The Australian Leading Sheep programme is offering Queensland sheep and wool producers the opportunity to visit the National Merino Sheep Show in Dubbo, New South Wales, from 26-29 August.

Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) Extension Officer, Nicole Sallur urged producers to register quickly as places were limited and filling quickly.

"A highlight will be a unique opportunity to visit Fletcher's International abattoir for a tour and discussion with key staff and buyers," Ms Sallur said.

"The National Merino Sheep Show will feature leading edge genetics with displays from Merino studs across Australia, and some of the best rams in the country will be going under the hammer."

For the very first time, the National Merino Sheep Show will feature a trade expo, giving Queensland sheep and wool producers exposure to new farm technology.
The trade expo will showcase agricultural motorbikes, tools, machinery, rural merchandise, clothing, sheep yards, handling equipment, contractor services and sheepdogs.

The A$200 registration fee covers travel, accommodation, breakfast and a cocktail party showcasing AWI's Autumn Winter fashion collection. Payment must be received by 5pm Friday 1 August.

Leading Sheep is an initiative aimed at boosting the profitability of the Queensland sheep and wool industry through the application of new technologies, knowledge and skills. The program is an important partnership between DAFF and Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) with support from AgForce.
