New FMD Outbreaks Reported in Algeria

ALGERIA - Three new outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) have been reported on farms in Algeria.

In total of the 2660 sheep susceptible, 34 cases were reported. No cases were reported in the goats and cattle also susceptible.

The source is thought to be due to the introduction of new animals.

In response to the outbreak, the livestock markets in El Bayadh wilayah have been closed, a ban on movement of animals in El Bayadh wilayah has been enforced and the movement of cattle in the others wilayahs is subject to a vaccination certificate.
