Firm Wool Markets Put 88 Cents on Wool Year on Year

31 March 2015

AUSTRALIA – Current strong trends in the wool market held steady last week ahead of the Easter break.

Firm prices were reported by Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and the Eastern Market Indicator added one cent to close at 1094 cents per clean kilo.

This is 88 cents, or 8.7 per cent, higher than a year ago.

The AWI said: “Super fine and fine Merino fleece were solid, broad Merino continued to drift somewhat, all skirtings and Crossbreds held firm and cardings continued the run to further extend their record levels.”

Greater volumes of over 50,000 bales are expected next week, and the AWI anticipates a “similar to stronger” market.
